Shortcut, drag, mark up, copy.
What it does
Press ⌘⇧9 and the screen freezes immediately, so a menu, a tooltip or an animation stays exactly where it was while you choose what to keep. Drag a region, or click a window to grab it precisely.
- Mark it up in place: arrows, boxes, ellipses, lines, text, pixelation and numbered steps
- Press ⏎ to copy, then paste anywhere. ⌘S saves a PNG instead
- Every capture is also saved as a PNG to
~/Pictures/Tyto, with the last 24 in the menu bar. Turn it off in Settings - Configurable shortcut, and default tool, colour and thickness

Privacy
Tyto makes no network connections and collects no data. Your captures never leave your Mac. The source is on GitHub if you would rather check than take my word for it. The full statement is on the privacy page.
Requirements
macOS 26 or later, on a Mac with Apple silicon. Tyto needs Screen Recording permission, which macOS requires of every app that captures the screen. Grant it in System Settings under Privacy & Security, then relaunch Tyto.
